'Faecal incident' causes partial closure at Kardinia Aquatic Centre in Geelong
Parts of Geelong's Kardinia Aquatic Centre have today been closed after faecal matter was found in one of its pools.
With a “diarrhoeal faecal incident” reported, the 'Olympic system' areas of the complex, which covers the 50 metre Olympic pool, the dive pool, the water slide and childrens' splash pool will be closed until Saturday afternoon.
City of Greater Geelong Community Life Director Robyn Stevens said a time that the Olympic system would re-open would be put on the Kardinia Aquatic Centre Facebook page.
She advised "in accordance with Department of Health guidelines, the City has closed the Olympic pool system at the Kardinia Aquatic Centre, which services the Olympic pool, dive pool, water slide and kids splash pool
“A diarrhoeal faecal incident has occurred in the Olympic pool system, requiring staff to apply a particular treatment regime to ensure the facilities are safe for use by the community.
"We estimate that these facilities will be closed until at least 2pm tomorrow (Saturday 14 January). The team will update the Kardinia Aquatic Centre Facebook page with a precise time for reopening."
"The FINA 50 metre pool remains open as it has a separate circulatory system and has not been affected by the incident."
"We apologise for any inconvenience this partial closure may cause."
"Members have reciprocal access to five other Swim Sport & Leisure centres as alternatives: Leisurelink, Waterworld, Lara Aquatic Centre, Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre and Splashdown."
