EVANZ awards Spark Arena Scholarship
The Entertainment Venues Association of New Zealand (EVANZ) has advised that its Learning and Development Sub-Committee has named Milly Thurlow from Nelson Community Venues as the recipient of this year's Spark Arena Scholarship.
The award will see Thurlow join the team at Spark Arena to see what it takes to put on a show with a major international touring artist, working on the delivery of Dua Lipa's November show at the Auckland venue.
In her application for the Scholarship, Thurlow wrote "I am currently an operations assistant and soon to be events assistant at Trafalgar Centre.
"I work with a dynamic team of five who are all passionate about making a difference in our community. One of the things I've learnt in the past year is to make the most of every opportunity that I'm given within my work role. To take everything as an opportunity, as it is a chance to progressively learn everyday.
"My goal for the future as I am still young and have so much to learn, I would like to expand my knowledge of the industry. Clearly this is a fundamental part in any workforce. My ambition is to build relationships within the event industry throughout New Zealand, I believe that socialising within the industry is a way of expanding my personal knowledge of the industry itself. I have an large ambition to travel in future and experience working in the events industry throughout the world."
Endorsing her Scholarship, Thurlow's Manager, Mark Mekalick wrote "Milly is committed to her own development within the industry and has already completed the Skills Active NZ Certificate in Event Operation (L3) and has started her Apprenticeship in Facility Operations (L4). This scholarship would give Milly further learning opportunities in a hands on and interactive setting."
Thurlow will be sharing her experiences at EVANZ's End of Year Conference in November.
