Enthusiasm high for new Walter Nash Centre

The community has continued to flock to the new Walter Nash Centre in Taita following its opening on Friday 16th October.

Around 10,000 people visited over the weekend and around 1,000 school students on Monday, the first day of operation.

The $12 million Walter Nash Centre features five multi-purpose indoor courts, a library, fitness centre, meeting spaces and a café.

Lower Hutt City Mayor Ray Wallace says he’s been delighted by the community’s response to the new Centre over the weekend.

Mayor Wallace stated “this Centre will help the Taita community to thrive. I know people appreciate it, and when I talked to people during my stint as chef on the councillor’s weekend sausage sizzle I could tell that they’re already enjoying everything it offers.”

Centre Manager Lesley Slieker says she was thrilled to see the way the community responded to the opening.

Slieker added “families with kids made great use of the sports activities and the special events like the xBox Sport eXpo.

“People who attended the opening realised what a great cultural space it is for entertainers, and that’s something we’re keen to encourage. There’s a lot of interest in the fitness centre and people are enjoying the café.”

The facility was built by ER Constructions.
