Emerton Leisure Centre named AUSTSWIM Swim School of the Year

Emerton Leisure Centre has been awarded the 2011 Swim School of the Year at the recent AUSTSWIM Water Safety Awards.

The Centre was awarded the honour ahead of other renowned swim schools across NSW, which recognises the dedication and commitment of the Emerton Leisure Centre staff in providing new opportunities to access and utilise the Centre, as well as continually educating the community on the importance of water safety and supervision.

Welcoming the award Blacktown Mayoy Councillor Alan Pendleton stated "congratulations to Emerton Leisure Centre on this fantastic achievement. The Centre is still relatively young but the progress it is continuing to make is amazing, it has definitely become a place the community can enjoy and be proud of."

Along with the Swim School of the Year Award, the Leisure Centre also received a High Commendation for the Most Outstanding Contribution to Water Safety with a Focus on Under Represented Groups for its Water Wise Aquatic Education Program.

Dedicated Learn to Swim Instructor Sharon Faulkner also received the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infants of the Year Award for her outstanding efforts and commitment to teaching babies and infants.

Emerton Leisure Centre offers a unique Learn to Swim Program, providing a broad balanced program of swimming, water safety and survival skills in preparation of a lifetime of safe activity in, or near the water.

AUSTSWIM accredited instructors deliver the program with a warm, caring approach designed to suit every learning style, catering for children between six months of age to adults of varying abilities.

The Learn to Swim program also includes a Waterbabies Program, which focuses on introducing infants to the excitement of water activity while developing confidence, familiarisation, exploration and independence in a safe environment.

The Centre's Term 4 Learn to Swim commences Monday 10th October 2011.
