Ekka countdown signals big savings for families
The countdown to Queensland’s biggest event has started with families set to enjoy savings of up to 30% ensuring the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) continues its 138 year tradition of being the best value event of its kind.
Tickets are now on sale for the event with special value packs designed to cover entry, rides and food to ensure no budget blowouts.
Explaining that almost 30 million people had come to the show since the first Ekka was held in 1876, RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou stated “we have a responsibility to keep this beloved historic Queensland institution affordable for all.
“These value packs mean families know up front a single discounted price, can start budgeting and enjoy the day without worrying about extra costs piling up.”
Christou said once again the RNA had committed to keeping the rise in ticket prices to the bare minimum – just $1.
He added “although the cost to stage the show rises each year, we will not pass that on at the gate; because it’s vital the next generation gets to experience the magic of Ekka which has left millions of people with wonderful lifelong memories.
“The RNA is a not for profit organisation and revenue made from the show is reinvested back into the event each year.
“It’s the people’s show and this iconic event forms a rich part of the state’s social and cultural heritage, we are very proud to be the custodians of this event.”
Christou said importantly a family of four could enjoy the Ekka for just $18 each by purchasing the discounted Family Value Pack.
“We encourage people to bring their own food and drinks and with more than 70% of the show dedicated to free entertainment with hundreds of activities, sights and competitions daily, it is the cheapest event of its kind.
“Across the 10 days of show, there are 10,000 animals, 42 competition categories featuring more than 21,000 entries, the incredible world class night program and fireworks plus free sampling of award winning food and wine.”
Christou said for a family of four wishing to have the ultimate Ekka experience they could save almost $70 by purchasing the Ultimate Family Value Pack which includes entry, $80 worth of rides, meals and drinks for the whole family.
He concluded “these value packs cater for every budget and we encourage the public to take advantage of the big savings on offer.”
Value packs are available exclusively at www.ekka.com.au until midnight on 6th August.
The Ekka/Royal Queensland Show will be staged at the Brisbane Showgrounds from 7th to 16th August 2015.
