No Soundwave in 2017, doubts over January 2016 festivals
Soundwave organiser AJ Maddah has revealed that there will be "definitely no" 2017 edition of the flagship hard and heavy music festival.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, Maddah wrote "it's a lot of hard work, stress (and) risk in return for which we get hate (and) stupidity."
Last month, the Maddah said that there were "no guarantees" the event would return in 2017, with its future resting on the success of the impending 2016 edition.
Soundwave 2016 is due to be staged in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney in January with a line-up including Disturbed, Deftones, Northlane and The Prodigy.
However, Maddah has also cast doubt on these events, reportedly still negotiating with key acts.
When a Twitter user, responding to the announcement that Soundwave won’t take place in 2017, asked Maddah, “with no SW17 now can you at least guarantee SW16 won’t be cancelled?” Maddah replied “I’m doing my darnest to make sure shows go ahead. Once I know position, will let everyone know.”
Soundwave events in 2016 have been scheduled to return to a one-day format and with no event in Adelaide.
Earlier this year Maddah blamed "pathetic" ticket sales of 12,000 - a four-year low for the event - as a reason for not staging an event in Adelaide in 2016..
Soundwave has not visited Perth since 2014, where ticket sales had been on the decline, while a "devastated" Maddah also cited a combination of poor ticket sales, high costs of staging, and clashes with council and the Western Australian Government for the demise of the Perth event.
