Ecotourism the key driver of tourism yield in the Asia-Pacific

The 2012 Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference will assemble nine ASEAN nations together with China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Australia to provide a high level briefing on how they are driving growth in ecotourism now and into the future.
Ecotourism is being taken extremely seriously in the Asia-Pacific as a high yielding segment of the tourism market while sustainability is also seen as a significant issue being pursued within the tourism industry of the Asia-Pacific.
Ecotourism Australia Chief Executive Kym Cheatham also sees that ecotourism is back on the agenda in Queensland as part of the DestinationQ Key Action Plan this week, with the conference set to introduce ctions coming out of this plan when delegates gather in Cairns from 15th to 17th October 2012.
Cheatham explains "we are very pleased to see the Queensland Government committing to some important actions that will build and support Ecotourism in Queensland.
"We welcome ... comments that ecotourism is key to kickstarting Queensland's tourism industry again."
By the time that the Global Eco Conference commences in Cairns, the Queensland Government is expected to be well on their way to developing a new Queensland ecotourism plan which will address opportunities to cut red tape and reduce costs for businesses.
The conference will provide an ideal platform for discussions not only around how to reinstate ecotourism as a number one priority in Queensland, but also how Australia can be reinstated as the number one ecotourism destination worldwide.
