Formal opening for new Mundaring Arena
The new multi-purpose Mundaring Arena has been officially opened in the Perth hills.
The $10.1 million multi-purpose indoor sports facility caters for year-round play in basketball, netball, hockey, badminton, volleyball and football.
The Western Australian Government provided $3 million towards the construction of the arena which includes a four-court international standard indoor stadium, function room and committee room, LED matrix score boards, referee room, first aid room, kiosk and a building that is fully accessible.
Construction began in November 2016 and the arena will provide more playing and training opportunities given the all-weather nature of the facility.
Several environmental strategies were implemented during construction, including the reuse of tree logs on the site for ground fauna, nesting box installation and retaining top soil to use as a seed bank.
The venue was a joint project between the Western Australian Government, the Shire of Mundaring and Mundaring Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank. Primary users Hills Night Hockey Association, Hills Raiders Basketball Association and Eastern Hills Netball Association contributed $50,000 to the project.
Welcoming the opening of the new venue, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray stated "Mundaring Arena is a great example of the commitment by the Shire of Mundaring to sport and recreation in their community and the tenacity and determination of the local sports community.
"Congratulations to the shire for their work on one of the largest capital projects in their history and congratulations also to the hockey, netball and basketball clubs who contributed to the funding.
"This venue will be well-used by locals for many years to come and I'm sure will continue to encourage locals to take up playing sport or getting involved in a club."
