Brent Hill announces resignation as Tourism Fiji Chief Executive
Brent Hill has announced he will step down from his role as Tourism Fiji Chief Executive to return to Australia permanently. Hill will finish in his role with Tourism Fiji in August.
Hill noted “In my time as CEO I have travelled all over Fiji, met wonderful, warm people, and worked with an inspirational industry who give their all, in a place where happiness truly does come naturally.
“I am incredibly grateful and honoured to have led my talented team, and to have achieved what we have together. I am proud of what we have done professionally and what I could share and give Fiji. And so grateful for what Fiji gave us.”
Tourism Fiji named Brent Hill as its new Chief Executive in July 2021, replacing former postholder Matt Stoeckel, whose tenure ended in December 2020.
Prior to his appointment, Hill was the Executive Director of Marketing for the South Australian Tourism Commission.
Hill commenced at Tourism Fiji with an immediate challenging role of rebuilding the country’s reputation post-Covid.
The pandemic has a significant impact on Fiji , given its economic reliance on tourists. The Pacific nation was also described as the ‘Covid capital’ in 2021 due to widespread outbreaks.
Hill, a former marketer, worked closely with the Fijian Government to reopen the country, including marketing campaigns simply showing the world ‘Fiji Is Open’ again.
