Dungog Shire Council continues development of its 10-year Open Space and Recreation Plan
Dungog Shire Council is continuing the development of its 10-year Open Space and Recreation Plan, which covers council-owned and managed land that provides parks, open space, recreation and tourism opportunities.
In Dungog Shire, this consists of 21 parks, 10 sporting sites, 12 playgrounds and two pools (not including Showgrounds).
Council’s consultant, Otium Planning Group, is currently finalising community and stakeholder engagement that will underpin the plan’s development.
Preliminary findings from this consultation period highlight that while there is an adequate number of parks and recreational facilities across the shire, opportunities exist for enhanced connectivity such as paths and cycleways, improved accessibility, and the provision of more facilities for older children and young people in the shire.
A draft strategy will be developed in the coming months, with public exhibition anticipated to occur in July, prior to final adoption of the Plan in the second half of this year.
