Dubai Sports Council allows fitness centres to operate at full capacity

As the Emirate further relaxes its COVID-19 restrictions, Coronavirus regulations for fitness centres and gyms in Dubai have been relaxed allowing them to operate at full capacity,

The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has also announced the easing of previous age restrictions for sports participation allowing children and the elderly in Dubai will be allowed to take part in sports activities - previously under 12s and those over 60 were banned from taking part in sports, as part of efforts to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

Announced yesterday, the two decisions followed an earlier DSC notice allowing the return of sports competitions in Dubai, starting with marine sports.

However, the easing measures come with strict regulations issued by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and other relevant authorities, which includes maintaining a regular cleaning regime, and ensuring safe distancing is maintained at all times.

In gyms, use of shower facilities, lockers and changing rooms are permitted, on the condition that cleaning and sanitisation is performed after every use, or at a minimum once every hour. Operators will also have to follow all the other safety protocols and guidelines - such as the two-metre social distancing, wearing masks, checking temperature of visitors, providing sanitisers and the like - issued previously by Dubai Sports Council.

Facilities unable to maintain social distancing, must reduce their capacity, while fitness centres need to make sure there are no more than two trainees with every personal trainer, and that the mandatory two-metre distance is maintained between them.

Sport venues need to submit a ‘Resumption of Activity’ request in order to resume operations.
