Dubai Opera House set for March 2016 completion
The Dubai Opera House is set to be completed by March next year, according a recent construction update from developers Emaar.
The 2,000-seat, multi-format performing arts venue will be centrepiece of The Opera District, the new cultural hub being developed in Downtown Dubai, which will also will feature hotels, a retail plaza, waterfront promenades and recreational spaces situated around design studios, art galleries and other cultural venues intended to create a “vibrant cultural scene”.
According to Emaar, the design of Dubai Opera is deeply rooted in Dubai's maritime history, with the Arabian dhow the inspiration behind the architecture of the building.
Dubai Opera House as a venue will have the ability to transform into three modes: from a theatre to a concert hall and into a 'flat floor' form, becoming a banquet of event hall.
In theatre mode, the space will be suitable for opera, musicals, ballet and dance performances, large scale drama productions, lectures and conferences. It will seat between 1,940 and 2,040 depending on the configuration.
The venue is transformed into a concert hall by a series of towers on stage to create an acoustic shell that surrounds the orchestra, reflectors overhead will enhance the acoustics and reflect sound.
In 'flat floor' mode, the room will cater for a number of events including weddings, with banquet style seating able to accommodate up to 1,000 guests. It will also offer the flexibility to be configured for trade shows, exhibitions, receptions and parties where furniture can be supplied or removed accordingly.
A series of key appointments are currently being made at the venue. For details go to www.dubaiopera.com/Careers
