Doha Park reduces ticket prices for rides
The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and organisers of the Doha Park 2011 have reduced the prices of tickets to their events by 50% between Sunday and Wednesday in response to recent public complaints of high ticket prices.
The amusement event, which runs for six weeks from 6th October to 17th November attracted more than 22,000 visitors and 50,000 tickets sold in its first 10 days of operation.
However, QTA has agreed with the organising company that special prices should be offered between Sunday and Wednesday to encourage families to attend.
Organisers have also added six new rides and games to Doha Park's attractions, bringing to 40 the number of amusement rides on offer. Many of these rides have not been in Qatar before.
QTA and organisers have also moved to deny media reports of parking fees at Doha Park and confirmed parking is free.
Doha Park occupies 30,000 metres2 at a new event area, near the Doha Exhibition Centre, with its ending coinciding with the Gulf nation's with Al-Adha celebrations.
QTA Chairman Ahmed Abdullah Al Nuaimi explains that the purpose of this festival is to provide a host of entertaining activities to both nationals and expatriates, and to tourists visiting Qatar, in order to encourage tourism from inside and outside Qatar.
The event is part of an ongoing campaign to attract more visitors and tourists, with incoming tourism to Qatar during the first half of 2011 having risen by nearly 40% from Gulf nations and 12% among international visitors.
Doha Park featurse more than 100 entertaining events and attractions, including an amusement park, an international circus, theatrical plays, concerts, a 3D cinema, performances by folkloric bands depicting the heritage of Qatar and other Arabic countries, appearances by famous cartoon personalities, a play area for children under the age of 10, entertainment programs, a live theatre for children, and various fun athletic activities for families.
