Bayside Community Sports Centre officially opened
Bayside Community Sports Centre at Sandringham Secondary College has been officially opened.
Last week Bayside Mayor, Fiona Stitfold officially opened the Centre along with Ryan Batchelor MP and Bayside & District Netball Association president Graham Scull.
The new facility was opened in the presence of Zoe Daniel MP, current and former Bayside councillors, and students and teachers from Sandringham College.
The new Centre represents Bayside City Council’s largest investment in community sport to date, at over $13million, with an additional $4.7 million grant from the Australian Government and collaboration with the Victorian School Building Authority.
The sports centre supports the thriving local netball and junior cricket competitions and provides additional facilities for Sandringham Secondary College students.
The purpose-built facility provides additional courts for Bayside’s growing local netball association including two indoor courts, nine outdoor courts, as well as on-site parking and amenities.
With the new, larger, lit facility, games no longer need to be shortened and can be played according to the national regulation time standard. Restrictions on club memberships can also be lifted, giving more players the opportunity to get active and involved.
The project also delivered a new sportsground for local junior cricketers, who will have the opportunity to increase their participation level, match duration and frequency of competition play.
