Diversity leader joins Netball Australia board
Netball Australia has announced the appointment of Nareen Young to its Board of Directors.
Young's appointment for the next three years was ratified by the board at its meeting over the weekend and Netball Australia President Noeleen Dix said she is excited about the skills and vision Young has to offer.
Dix explained "Nareen is very familiar with the game having played netball from a young age, but she's also passionate about supporting women and women's sport
"That was one of the exciting parts of her application. She can bring some fresh ideas to the board and help with the future direction of Netball Australia.
"That was the type of person we were after; we wanted to bring in someone from outside the immediate netball community who will complement the diverse range of talents we have among the board members.
"Nareen is very well networked, particularly in New South Wales and with the World Championships being held in Sydney in 2015, that's certainly a city we need to make our presence felt in. So her assistance in that area will be warmly accepted."
Young is Chief Executive of Diversity Council Australia, a not-for-profit workplace diversity advisor to over 220 businesses in Australia. She has held that position for the past six years.
In 2012, she was named by the Financial Review and Westpac Group as one of Australia's 100 Women of Influence and received the top honour in the diversity category.
Since 2007 she has been included in both the 'Who's Who of Australian Business' and 'Who's Who of Australian Women' and in 2003 was nominated for a Human Rights Award and Medal for her leadership with the NSW Working Women's Centre.
Young said her new role is a great opportunity and she's excited about being involved in the future growth and direction of the sport.
She explained "netball is the quintessential Australian women's sport and I'm looking forward to working with a passionate and committed group of board members towards an even brighter future for the game.
"I have played netball since I was eight years old. Australian women play netball and I want to broaden that opportunity out to as many and as diverse numbers of Australian women as possible.
"This is a great opportunity for me."
