Design competition to create Gold Coast Cultural Precinct
Aiming to establish a creative centre for arts, culture and community on the Gold Coast, Gold Coast City Council has announced a global design competition for a landmark cultural precinct.
Aiming to revitalise 11 hectares of the 17-hectare Evandale site, currently home to the Gold Coast Arts Centre and City Art Gallery, as well the Council's Offices, the aims to provide a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance to create a landmark cultural precinct in the world of arts, culture and architecture.
All Australian and internationally registered architects and landscape architects are encouraged to form multi-disciplinary teams for this exciting two-stage competition.
Stage One submissions will lead to a shortlist of up to three teams, each being awarded $250,000 to further develop their design response during Stage Two. The winner will be engaged to work with Council to realise the project.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate explains "with the Gold Coast poised to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, it is time for our city to have a permanent focal point for arts and culture - a place that celebrates, reflects and builds on our unique cultural identity."
