Deception Bay adizone outdoor gym proves popular

An adizone outdoor fitness gym, created as part of a joint venture between Moreton Bay Regional Council, the Queensland Government and adidas, has grown in popularity since it was opened 12 months ago.

Located next to the Deception Bay Sports Centre, the facility features a range of equipment including a leg, bench and shoulder press, cross trainer, tennis and climbing wall, a Futsal/football goal and basketball hoop.

Speaking about the facility, Moreton Bay Mayor Allan Sutherland explained "this is smart, active infrastructure that can make a big difference to the health and wellbeing of the region."

At the time of its opening, then Queensland MP Dean Wells stated "an adiZone is an adidas-branded outdoor gym and exercise facility providing the community to get fit and healthy at no cost.

"It's a free and easy-to-use gym facility full of gear including a basketball hoop, sprint track/multi-purpose space, traversing wall, tennis/kick wall, and football goal."

The Deception Bay Sports Centre is used for regular sport, recreation and community activities by Deception Bay PCYC, Deception Bay Community Youth Programs Association, Australian Crawl, Lions Club of Deception Bay, Deception Bay Rugby League Football Club and Murrumba Invitational Racing Pigeon Club.

The reserve also accommodates informal recreational use by the general public including playing field, a skate park, a BMX track and playground, as well access to the aquatic complex, PCYC facilities, John Naumann Hall and tennis courts.
