Darwin Festival celebrates a diverse multicultural community

Popular festival - the ‘Harmony Soiree’ - returns to the Darwin Waterfront today to celebrate a diverse multicultural community.

The event, commencing at 4.30pm, celebrates all cultures, with more than 20 community groups coming together to showcase their food, culture and customs.

A collaboration between the Darwin Waterfront Corporation, Northern Territory Government, Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory and Darwin Community Arts, the Harmony Soiree is one of the longest running and popular events at the Darwin Waterfront.

Each year the popular lantern parade and competition features stunning designs by Millner Primary School students, who dedicate time and creativity to building and designing many of the lanterns featured in the display.

Northern Terrority Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Ngaree Ah Kit shared "our government is proud to support the annual Harmony Soiree and the dedicated individuals who work hard to bring the event to life.

“The event brings the Darwin community together, celebrating different cultures and promoting understanding, highlighting the diversity and strength of our community.

“Together, let’s celebrate unity, diversity, and understanding among our communities."

Darwin Waterfront Corporation Chair, Dr Richard Fejo added “the Harmony Soiree is an iconic event in the dry season events calendar, bringing together many community groups to gather and showcase their unique cultures.

“The Darwin Waterfront is proud to work with our partners to deliver this fantastic cultural celebration of food, culture, music and dance.”

The 2024 Harmony Soiree is on from 4.30pm - 9pm on Saturday 25th May. To find more information, please visit www.waterfront.nt.gov.au
