BASSINTHECITY pop-up music festival to activate Darwin ahead of BASSINTHEGRASS
A new pop-up music festival - BASSINTHECITY – is aimed at boosting local and Territory businesses, as it is being held in the days leading up to BASSSINTHEGRASS.
BASSINTHECITY is a free event featuring popular rap artist J-MILLA alongside supporting acts The Lunar Society and Madison and will take place in Austin Lane in Darwin’s CBD on Wednesday, 15th May from 6.30pm.
Jo Smallacombe, Executive Director of Activate Darwin shared “Activate Darwin is excited to support this collaboration between BASSINTHEGRASS and The Darwin Street Art Festival, which will bring more people into Darwin City.
“The addition of the Austin Lane Markets will give attendees an opportunity to grab last minute, locally made products for BASSINTHEGRASS; and surrounding venues will benefit from the additional people visiting the city. Activations and events such as BASSINTHECITY are critical to creating a vibrant and thriving city centre for all Territorians to enjoy.”
BASSINTHECITY expands on the Territory’s largest music festival BASSINTHEGRASS and will feature a mix of musicians, cultural acts, food vans, and local businesses.
With BASSINTHEGRASS, the Territory’s largest music festival only three days after this new event, the NT Government is aiming to encourage visitors to stay in the Territory longer and generate more economic stimulus for the region and local businesses.
Last year, BASSINTHEGRASS drew 4000 strong crowd from interstate alone and added $13.1 million to the Territory economy, and it is predicted this year will be record breaking with international superstar Macklemore headlining alongside widely popular artists like Ziggy Alberts and The Jungle Giants.
NT Minister for Major Events, Brent Potter shared “BASSINTHECITY is an exciting new development that builds upon this popular music festival. It also encourages visitors to stay longer in the Territory and will help boost local businesses.
“Festival goers visiting Darwin for BASSINTHEGRASS will have more reason to stay and explore the Top End from seeing the stunning street art to heading further afield to Litchfield National Park where people can immerse themselves in our jaw-dropping nature.”
David Collins, Director of Darwin Street Art Festival added "Moving the Darwin Street Art Festival to May this year has allowed us to partner with other epic festivals happening in the Dry Season, like BASSINTHEGRASS.
“We can't wait to bring some live art to all the live music fans!"
