Cygnett WNBL announce Ford Aussie Hoops partnership
The Cygnett WNBL has partnered with national junior basketball participation program, Ford Aussie Hoops with the collaboration linking grassroots talent with elite players and aiming to spark young hoop dreams.
The WNBL is the longest standing women’s national league in Australia (43 seasons) and is renowned as one of the best leagues in the world, while Aussie Hoops is growing year-or-year, with over 45,000 children expected to take part in 2023. Combining these two powerhouse programs, both part of Basketball Australia, will only strengthen basketball across the country.
Year one of the partnership will involve Aussie Hoopers being offered a free WNBL Digital Membership at the time of registration. This will include digital player cards and activity sheets from the WNBL, and at least one free ticket to attend a game and a unique membership offer from their favourite team.
This collaboration provides an opportunity to connect Aussie Hoopers at the start of their basketball journey with their favourite WNBL players and teams, hopefully inspiring them to become lifelong basketballers and fans of the WNBL.
Basketball Australia’s Head of WNBL, Christy Collier-Hill is delighted to welcome the partnership with Ford Aussie Hoops and Cygnett WNBL and shares “The integration of grass roots programs to elite teams and leagues to generate awareness, fans, and lifelong engagement in the sport, is a tried, tested and proven strategy in sport in Australia. We see it done particularly well in AFL, Soccer and Netball.
“We’re therefore thrilled to be formally partnering with Ford Aussie Hoops, connecting children to the many incredible female athletes that are part of the WNBL, and hopefully inspiring them on their own basketball journey.”
Basketball Australia Acting Game Day Manager, who is involved in the Ford Aussie Hoops program, Neil Gray enthused "we're thrilled to further develop the partnership between Cygnett WNBL and Ford Aussie Hoops, highlighting the pathway between two strong pillars of Australian basketball. Together, we aim to ignite a new era of grassroots talent, fostering the stars of tomorrow on their journey from the local courts to the WNBL stage."
Cameron McLeish, Chairman of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, said that the Ford Dealer Network is excited about the new partnership.
“Since 1925, Ford and its 170+ dealers have had a rich history of supporting sport across the country and connecting with communities. We are proud to be backing the grassroots Ford Aussie Hoops program that truly delivers to this ambition. And are extremely happy to now extend our support to the WNBL.”
