Construction begins on new indoor Ellenbrook recreation and aquatic facility

The City of Swan has celebrated construction commencing on the new indoor recreation and aquatic centre in Ellenbrook which will integrate aquatic, sport, health, wellbeing and community elements under one roof.

The indoor centre will be co-located with the Ellenbrook District Open Space, and complement the existing sports fields and buildings within the Ellenbrook Sports Hub.

The new facility will cater to people and groups of all ages and abilities, and will reduce the need to drive 30 minutes to the nearest indoor facility.

The Federal Government contributed $25 million towards the project with the Western Australian Government also contributing $7 million for planning and construction works.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey was joined by Attorney General and Federal Member for Pearce, the Hon. Christian Porter and Member for Swan Hills, Jessica Shaw MLA to break ground on the multimillion-dollar project.

Mayor Bailey said this was an exciting project milestone for the City and Ellenbrook residents, who had been advocating for the multi-purpose facility for years noting “one of the City’s key priorities is to provide high-quality facilities and services to all our residents, and a multi-purpose leisure facility has been missing from the Ellenbrook area.

“Not only will the new facility give current residents the opportunity to lead healthier lives, the project is a major investment in the future of Ellenbrook where the local area population is set to grow to 70,000 by 2036.

“We are grateful to the State and Federal governments for their on-going support, and we will continue to work with the State Government regarding their funding arrangements.”

Earthworks have commenced and the expression of interest for construction is now open.
