Construction begins on new Grenfell Aquatic Centre

Building work has commenced on the Weddin Shire Council's new Grenfell Aquatic Centre.

Having undertaken work on a number of pools in country NSW, including Adelong, Lithgow, Mittagong and Parkes, the building is being undertaken by the ICON Building Group.

The project includes three stages: Stage one being the development of a 50 metre pool, plant and concourse, stage 2 covering amenities and stage 3 being a splash pad and program pool.

First developed in the 1930s, the only part of the previous pool structure that will remains is the toddler’s pool.

Initial work on the project has involved dealing with unforeseen water ingress in the far northeast section of the complex, which required assessment and design from a specific hydraulic consultant.

Commenting on the project, Weddin Shire Council Director of Environmental Services, Brendan Hayes told The Grenfell Record "it is great to see the next stage taking shape.

"We understand that there have been time delays due to circumstances outside our control requiring specialist design assistance.

"The bringing forward of the splash pad and program pool to allow the entire community access is also a positive."

Weddin Shire is located in the Central West region of NSW and has a population of 3,500.
