New all-weather tennis courts open at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre
Top tennis players and local participants will now have access to an all-weather training facility after the official opening of Sydney’s first public indoor tennis courts at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.
NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres today (24th July) joined former Australian Davis Cup Captain and Tennis Australia Head of Performance Wally Masur, Tennis NSW President Greg Doyle and Tennis NSW Chief Executive Lawrence Robertson to officially open the facility.
Minister Ayres commented “this state-of-the-art centre will not only benefit some of the world’s best tennis players at the Sydney International in January, but it will also help improve Sydney’s chances for hosting Fed and Davis Cup ties or Australian Pro Tour events in the future.
“This facility will allow players to prepare for matches no matter the conditions.”
The $830,000 facility is a joint initiative of the NSW Government, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Tennis NSW and Tennis Australia.
Minister Ayres added “I applaud Tennis NSW and its partners in delivering a world class venue where thousands of grassroots tennis players of all ages and aspiring NSW tennis champions can also enjoy the sport they love come rain, hail or shine.”
Tennis NSW Chief Executive and Sydney International Tournament Director Lawrence Robertson said the new facility is a win for competitors and the community alike, concluding “as the home of tennis in NSW, it is only fitting that this purpose-built training facility has opened at Sydney Olympic Park.
“The new covered courts will not only support the on-going development of our high performance athletes through the work of the National Academy but will also offer the wider tennis community in Sydney weather proof tennis year round at very affordable prices.”
The new venues has been surfaced with the Plexicushion tennis system.
