Collingwood restructures football operations with controversial appointment

After a disappointing 2016 season where they finished to make the finals series for a third straight year, Collingwood FC made changes in their playing department, naming controversial figure Graeme Allan as their General Manager of Football.

Allen, who is currently being investigated by the AFL for allegedly deleting text messages to protect GWS Giants player Lachie Whitfield from a possible drug ban during his time at the club, takes the position previously occupied by Neil Balme who is now considering a role as Director of Coaching at the club.

As part of his role, Allen will oversee the club’s entire football program – both men’s and women’s.

Football Operations Manager for the AFL program Marcus Wagner will have his role expanded to include oversight of the VFL and the newly formed Collingwood women’s team.

Current General Manager of List Management Derek Hine will report to Allan as part of an expanded recruiting department, whilst David Emerson will overlook the Collingwood netball program in his role as General Manager of Netball, Stadia and Community.
