City of Perth counts down to WA Tree Festival
The City of Perth Council says preparations are well underway for this year’s WA Tree Festival that will see it host a range of events from 6th April to 5th May as part of statewide tree celebrations.
Highlights the importance of daily connections to nature and how the community can help to protect Western Australia’s tree canopy, the Festival is a precursor to Council’s own month-long celebration of trees in May, known as Tree Month.
In a statement, the Council advised “Tree Month recognises the importance of community involvement in urban greening and helps contribute to long-term strategic planting goals outlined in the City’s Urban Greening Strategy 2023-2036.
“The City aims to increase canopy cover in city streets and parklands to 30% by 2050.”
As part of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Trees in Cities Challenge, the City of Perth has also pledged to plant 1502 trees between 1st January 2023 and 31st December 2024.
