City Art Walk showcases heart of the Blacktown creative scene

The City Art Walk -presented now through to 31st July by Blacktown Arts and Blacktown City Council -  showcases the heart of the Blacktown creative scene with digital art on outdoor screens, large scale installations and street art by diverse western Sydney talent.

Walking guide maps highlighting installation locations are available online or at the Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre, which serves as the perfect art walk kick-off and features original artwork by Kevin Vo or Leila Frijat, before admiring large-scale installations such as Traveling Colony, a hand-painted caravan inspired by artist Brook Andrew’s Wiradjuri tradition; Graham Chalcroft's Kaleidosculpture Velocity Wheel sculpture which captures the fun, excitement and movement associated with showgrounds; a memorial to workers lost via The Wreath from Bronwyn Berman; and an 8m tall reflective light sculpture Light Wing by Skunk Control; and Dadu Bamul 9under the earth), a series of painted figures and animals designed to help visitors navigate the Warrick Lane underground carpark

Collaborative street-art also occupies the city paths including City Shift, and It’s Our Thing, Street Cycle both inspired by the hip-hop movement of western Sydney. Be sure to pencil in a break along the way at Warami Ngallawah Mittigar to enjoy water features, garden areas and art at the Village Green.

Designed for art-lovers of all kinds, The Made in Blacktown City Art Walk is carefully curated to highlight people, places and things including Temporary Public art from local talent including Emily Johnson and Coda Jade.

Additional artists, workshop and map details can be found online. Don’t miss the chance to support local creatives just by taking a walk!
