Chinese backed theme park to open on Gold Coast within three years
The SongCheng group’s first theme park outside China is on track to be opened at Nerang on the Gold Coast within three years.
The Queensland Times reports that the SongCheng Performing Arts Development Company has recently submitted a detailed development application for the $600 million attraction to the Gold Coast City Council.
The Australia Legends project, pitched at Chinese tourists visiting the country, is set to feature an adventure park, indoor ski field, animal exhibits and a 3,500-seat performance theatre.
Areas within the attraction will include an Aboriginal Cultural Village, Colour Zoo and a Mysterious Orient zone, along with a Wild Australia show. In addition, the development will feature bars, restaurants, a wedding centre, hotels, a residential community and a tranquil wetlands.
To be located on a 44-hectare parcel of land, the attraction will be located on the site of a former dairy farm between Narang train station and Metricon Stadium.
The SongCheng group describes itself as the biggest creator of cultural tourism projects in China, operating around 30 theme parks and attractions across the country, with a strong emphasis on live shows and performance.
TEA/AECOM list SongCheng as one of the world's top 10 amusement park companies.
The project is expected to generate thousands of construction jobs are expected, and more than 500 permanent staff positions once it opens.
