Cairns Zoom hosts Croc Trophy riders

Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome, the world’s first challenge ropes course in a wildlife park, is once again supporting the 2016 Croc Trophy once again, with national and international riders visiting Cairns ZOOM in the lead up to the event.

The annual Croc Trophy is a 650 kilometre mountain bike ride, taking participants from the rainforests of Cairns to the bush of the Atherton Tablelands, before finishing on picturesque Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas.

International riders competing this year include Urs Huber, the 2015 Croc Trophy winner, as well as Matthias Grick and Bas Peters.

The female contingent boasts some strong competitors, including local Cairns rider Sarah Kaehler and Ruth Corset of Townsville, as well as Alice Pirard, the Belgian National Champion.

Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome General Manager Michael Bowley said it was a great opportunity to get involved with such an iconic event in the region, and help prepare the riders for their journey.

Bowley explains “the Croc Trophy is now in its 22nd year, and we are lucky to have riders from all over the world come to Cairns to take part.

“Given the competitors may come across some wild crocodiles on their ride, it makes sense to prepare them by having them zipline over Goliath here at Cairns ZOOM!“

Cairns ZOOM & Wildlife Dome will also have wildlife on display at the riders briefing in Fogarty Park, ahead of the event which runs from 22nd to 29th October.
