Cairns Waterpark gains all State Government approvals
Plans for the new Adventure Waters water park in Cairns have advanced with Chief Executive Paul Freebody announcing that all Federal and State Government approvals for the development are in hand.
Freebody explained that "our advertising date with the Cairns City Council finished on 8th August" and that he is awaiting "a decision hopefully at the September (Cairns City) Council meeting, two months earlier than planned.
"(This) will allow us to move to the final planning and building phase after a long three years of research and Government application processes," Freebody adding that "the Park will have a final budget of $35 million to build stage one."
The Freebody Group plan to start work on the park at the end of North Queensland's wet season in March 2010 and will open April 2011.
Freebody also explained that "we have just completed our round of preparation meetings at the Marriott Brisbane in which had most key consultants involved with the purpose of putting building schedules in place and identify areas we need to start doing works in preparation if we gain Council approval."
