Cairns to host global tourism trade show in 2014

Cairns will be the first Australian regional centre to host Tourism Australia's annual global Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) trade event in 2014.

Queensland Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey said ATE was one of the most significant travel trade events on the Australian tourism calendar, bringing together Australian tourism businesses with buyers from around the world.

Minister Stuckey stated "ATE 2014 will be held in Cairns as part of an agreement between event organiser Tourism Australia and Tourism and Events Queensland.

"Tourism is one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy and inbound tourism is the State's second largest export earner.

"This event is a major coup for Queensland tourism and is expected to attract thousands of participants from across the world, including Australian tourism operators, key international buyer companies and international and Australian travel trade media.

"ATE provides a fantastic forum for Queensland's tourism industry to showcase its products first hand, negotiate deals and rates with leading international buyers and increase Queensland's share of the inbound travel market.

"Delegates will also have the opportunity to experience Queensland tourism products first-hand, travelling throughout the State before and after the event.

"Hosting such a significant event as ATE 2014 will help the Queensland tourism industry foster relationships and encourage further business deals with our global tourism trade partners.

"This will help the Government reach its goal of $30 billion in overnight visitor expenditure by 2020."
