Byron Shire Council’s courts win at Tennis NSW Awards
Byron Shire Council has taken out the top spot in the Supporting Tennis - Government category at the Tennis NSW Awards.
The Council was recognised for providing outstanding engagement with and in support of tennis stakeholders in the community, for work on refreshing five courts in Billinudgel, Suffolk Park, Ocean Shores, Mullumbimby, and Bangalow following the flood events of 2022.
Noting that many of the tennis courts in the Shire experienced significant flood damage as a result of rain events last year, Byron Shire Manager of Open Spaces and Facilities, Malcolm Robertson stated “I am proud of the work the team has done to refresh and clean up the courts or in some cases totally resurface and refurbish them.
“I also want to thank the local tennis clubs and Tennis NSW for their patience and guidance throughout the process and for working with us to deliver these rejuvenated courts. Thanks should also go to the NSW Government for funding this work.
“Together we have delivered great facilities for local tennis players and clubs. Receiving this award is recognition of the work everyone put in and we thank them for their efforts.”
