Business opportunities emerge from Papua New Guinea's hosting of the 2015 Pacific Games

With Papua New Guinea set to host the next Pacific Games in 2015, a range of business opportunities are available for the supply of products and services for the quadrennial event.

Set to be held from 4th to 8th July 2015, the 15th Pacific Games will coincide with the 40th anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence.

With the Pacific Games Council having last year publicly expressed a number of concerns over delays which had marked the planning and organisation of the 2015 Pacific Games up until that point, organisation of the Games is now on track.

Guided by Papua New Guinea Minister for Sport and the 2015 Pacific Games Justin Tkatchenko, the Pacific Games Council has more recently expressed its satisfaction with the delivery plan for the Games facilities outlined by the Venues, Infrastructure and Equipment Committee (VIEC), and the organisational planning details which have been developed by the 2015 Pacific Games Organising Committee.

A number of Queensland businesses have started tapping into the multi-million dollar development of facilities for the Games, with The Cairns Post reporting that Advance Cairns and the Cairns Chamber of Commerce have been working with games organisers to find out what goods and services businesses from the region can supply to the games.

Advance Cairns Chief Executive Mark Matthews told The Cairns Post that the best way for managers, owners and operators to strike contracts was to work with their counterparts in PNG.

Matthews explained "there are 6,000 athletes plus officials which makes the games bigger than a Commonwealth Games."

Among a range of tenders for the supply of products and services for the Games is a recently announced Expressions of Interest for the Scope of Services and Requirements for Venue Temporary Commodities covering the supply transportable washrooms, tents, scaffolding, panel fencing, shipping/sea storage containers, mobile light towers, portable toilets, partition walling systems, curtain walls and generators.

This tender closes on 1st November 2013..

Other tenders have included catering, cleaning and management, which has closed, and demolition works associated with the new 15,000-seat Sir John Guise stadium while more tenders are expected to follow.

Papua New Guinea previously hosted the Pacific Games in 1969 and 1991.
