Broken Hill YMCA take over and modernisation
Brendan Owens, Centre Manager of Caringbah YMCA has been appointed to launch Broken Hill YMCA.
With a rich and successful history of serving the Broken Hill community, the YMCA of Broken Hill had struggled financially for several years. Having been taken over by the YMCA of Sydney. it will now enter a new and exciting era. The YMCA of Sydney's support is seeing the refurbishment and modernisation of the centre and the expansion of programs and services, enabling Broken Hill YMCA to again a hub for the community.
As Owens explains "it's a new beginning for the local YMCA with all the support from YMCA of Sydney.
"I''m really proud of the centre. It epitomises what the YMCA is about. We're keen to get the doors open and get people using the centre again.
"We've (also) created a community and development manager position which will be key in improving relations between the centre and the community."
All major refurbishments at the centre will be completed for the New Year.
