HKCEC secures highest Muslim Gold Certification

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Management Limited has announced that the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (‘HKCEC’) has been accredited the Gold Certification for MICE Venues by the internationally recognised halal travel promotion company CrescentRating in December 2024.

The HKCEC is the first MICE (meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibition) venue in Hong Kong to receive this Gold Certification, the highest ranking of the certification scheme, reassuring the good experience that the exhibition centre has created for Muslim exhibitors and visitors.

The internationally recognised halal travel promotion company CrescentRating was commissioned by the Hong Kong Tourism Board to carry out a series of work, including assessing local hotels, attractions and MICE venues based on categories and standards on par with international benchmarks.  To achieve Gold Certification for a MICE venue, it must meet several stringent rating requirements.

In order to support the Hong Kong SAR Government’s initiative of promoting Muslim-friendly business activities and tourism, and it is expected that many of the international exhibitions and conferences held at the HKCEC will increasingly attract Muslim exhibitors, buyers and visitors, HML has added separate prayer spaces for male and female users on the second floor of the HKCEC, marked with the direction of Qibla and equipped with prayer mats for use.

The restrooms next to the prayer room are now equipped with water-friendly facilities, including hand showers and ablution facilities.  HML also caters for the dietary needs of Muslim visitors by providing Halal certified food at the concession stands during events, and HML’s food and beverage team can also provide tailor-made Halal menus upon request.

Monica Lee-Müller, Managing Director of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited (‘HML’) noted “recently, the presence of Muslim exhibitors, buyers, and visitors has grown notably. To enhance the experience of our guests and provide them with the dedicated support of HML, we have introduced a prayer room and other Muslim-friendly facilities. We are delighted that HML's dedication to ensuring a positive experience for all users of HKCEC has been acknowledged, making it the first convention and exhibition centre to achieve the highest-level award Gold Certification, while also contributing to Hong Kong's economy and enhancing its reputation as a Muslim-friendly travel destination."
