Brisbane’s South Bank Piazza announced as 2025 Squash Australian Open venue

South Bank Piazza in Brisbane is set to welcome thousands of spectators across six days of competition for the 2025 Easy Times Brewing Co. Squash Australian Open from 11th to 16th March 2025.

Set along the Brisbane River, South Bank Piazza’s multipurpose amphitheatre will have the eyes of the squash world on it as the best players compete in the tournament.

A purpose-built glass court will be placed in the centre of South Bank Piazza, providing a unique viewing experience for spectators, corporate hospitality and a worldwide broadcast audience.

Next year’s tournament has been elevated to Gold status on the PSA Squash Tour, one of just seven events on the global calendar at that level this season, which is certain to attract the sport’s best players to Australia in March.

Robert Donaghue, Squash Australia Chief Executive said fans could expect to see the tournament’s highest-quality field in decades noting “The Easy Times Brewing Co. Squash Australian Open is a time-honoured event dating back almost a century, and we’re confident that 2025 will see some of the strongest men’s and women’s draws the tournament has ever seen.

“South Bank Piazza will provide a unique venue for all showpiece matches at the tournament where fans will be able to cheer on both Australia’s top players and the international stars of the game.

“While the PSA Squash Tour Gold tournament is the focal point of the week, we also want all members of the Australian squash community to get involved.

"Players from around the country will have the opportunity to compete in the Australian Open Graded divisions, while competitions and activities will also be staged for junior players of all levels.

“Bringing the Easy Times Brewing Co. Squash Australian Open to a new and unique venue like South Bank Piazza is an indication of the innovative direction Squash Australia is looking to take this tournament as the sport moves closer to its Olympic debut in 2028.”

The tournament will also feature the Squash Australia’s Annual Awards Night showcasing the best of Australian Squash from throughout the 2024 season.

Tickets will go on sale later this month with hospitality packages also to be released in time for Christmas!

The Australian Open dates back to 1928 with the honour roll featuring greats of the game from Australia and abroad, including Heather McKay, Geoff Hunt, Jahangir Khan, Michelle Martin, Chris Dittmar, Sarah Fitz-Gerald, David Palmer and Nicol David.
