Brisbane Powerhouse reopens With Minimal Flood Damage

Brisbane Powerhouse reopened its doors today (Monday) having miraculously been only minimally affected by the floods that have devastated Brisbane and most of South East Queensland.

Situated right on the banks of the Brisbane River at the point of New Farm Park, it was expected that Brisbane Powerhouse would be inundated. Almost unbelievably, the iconic venue escaped relatively unscathed apart from minor lower level flooding and some machinery damage.

With no water making it into in the main areas of the building, all theatre and rehearsal spaces remained thankfully dry. The Visy Foyer received some water, as did Watt Restaurant + Bar, the restaurant on river level, however Watt managed to open for trade yesterday.

The sub-basement (the original lower level of Brisbane Powerhouse), the Visy Theatre plant room and the motor for the retractable Powerhouse Theatre seats, all received some water, with power being lost to the venue for two days.

Power has however now been restored with final checking of hydraulics and pumps currently underway.

Shows programmed this week will go ahead as planned, however, any patrons affected by flooding who are unable to attend performances can have their tickets changed where possible or refunded.
