BK’s Gymnastics launches new class programs offering clear progression pathways
With the aim of creating a clear progression pathway for children through gymnastics, the national BK’s Gymnastics network is re-launching its class programs this week.
There are multiple levels within each program, with children from the age of three months able to progress through programs including Kindergym (0-5 years), Gym Fun (5-8) and Gym Skills (9-13+) with the option to also continue into the assessment-based Gym Star program.
BK’s Gymnastics Program Manager Laura Sereno said after a rigorous process of revaluation and analysis, the new programs incorporate competencies that are age-based so children can progress in a way that aligns with both their skills and their physical development.
Sereno explained “there are now multiple levels in each of the programs that are closely aligned to how children’s bodies work at each age level.
“We wanted to provide our children with a clear, safe pathway and show how skills are built in a progressive and refined way that is age appropriate.
“A new rewards and recognition system is also in place so that each time a child passes a level they get a ribbon and certificate to acknowledge their progress and hard work.”
As part of new programs launch, a new member handbook is also available; a comprehensive guide that allows parents to better understand their child’s gymnastics journey.
Sereno added “we’ve also extended our make-up class period from 14 days to 90 days to allow more flexibility for parents navigating sickness and absences.”
BK’s Gymnastics Chief Executive Mark Rendell said the program restructure would provide better clarity for parents and inclusivity and encouragement for children.
Rendell advised “with our new class structure, it’s very clear where new members slot in and when and how a child can move to the next level.
“We hope to help children build a love for the sport of gymnastics that stays with them as they develop.”
