Beatty Park Leisure Centre set for $825,000 in gym equipment upgrades
The City of Vincent will spend more than $825,000 replacing fitness equipment at Beatty Park Leisure Centre, Perth’s most popular gym and recreation centre.
Following a $3.1 million upgrade to the centre’s indoor pool during the winter months, Beatty Park Leisure Centre’s gym, which attracts more than one million visits each year, will benefit from new equipment, with Technogym having won the tender to supply cardio equipment, with Gymcare will supply the strength equipment.
Strength equipment was installed in 2013, with cardio equipment last installed in 2017.
Advising that upgrading equipment would improve the experience of gym users and keep ongoing maintenance costs down, City of Vincent Mayor, Emma Cole “with all (existing) equipment now outside of warranty and falling behind in terms of technology, it was seen as the right time to upgrade.”
The gym will close for one or two weeks during installation, with membership fees to be frozen during that time.
‘The Park’ - which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year - has seen a surge in membership since it reopened in August, with it now recording more than 3788 members.
Mayor Cole see this as being positive for the community’s physical and mental health, commenting “the reopening of our indoor pool has brought many new people to Beatty Park and this is having a positive flow-on effect to our health and fitness areas.
“Changes to our membership fee structure have also made it more affordable and flexible for those wishing to join up for shorter periods and the recent closure of the indoor pool at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre has meant a lot of users from that area are coming to Beatty Park.”
Reopened in August, the upgrades to the indoor pool at the centre included new pool tiling, Aboriginal tile artwork, spruced up garden beds and an impressive kids’ water playground complete with new water features, giant tipping bucket and netball hoops.
The facility’s green frog was also given a fresh new coat of paint.
Works also included the installation of new change cubicles and heated showers on the pool deck level, updated pipework and a new water treatment system.
Further works in 2020 will see the installation of new waterslides and new universal changerooms closer to the indoor pool.
Mayor Cole explains that these change rooms closer “will improve accessibility for everyone using the pool.”
