Beachside pool opening set to revitalise Scarborough Esplanade

This morning’s opening of the Scarborough Beach Pool in Perth saw a crowd of swimmers waiting outside the doors at 5:30am, keen to be the first members of the public to experience the new facility.

Offering a 50-metre outdoor pool overlooking Scarborough beach, a children's splash pool and outdoor health and fitness programs, the $26 million facility is intended to revitalise the Esplanade area of the Perth beachside suburb.

Ben Randall owner of the nearby Sandbar cafe and restaurant Ben Randall said the pool and the redevelopment of the foreshore will not only be a game-changer for Scarborough but also for the City of Perth and will be a draw card for international visitors.

Randall explained "I think it is going to be massive for Scarborough Beach and the entire area

"It's a world-class swimming pool and we are just so excited about what it is going to bring to the area.”

Geothermally heated via the Yaragadee aquifer deep below the ground - for which it has become the first aquatic facility in Western Australia to get a six-star green rating - the main pool will be 26C to 28C, while the learners pool will be kept at 32C year round.

Entry will cost $6.90 for adults, $4.20 for kids and $18 dollars for a family of four, with $40 monthly memberships available.

The $57 million redevelopment of the Scarborough foreshore also includes a new skatebowl, set to be ready for use in March.
