AusTriathlon launches Equity, Diversity and Inclusion plan for 2024-2028
AusTriathlon has unveiled its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan for 2024-2028 which has been developed with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group (EDIAG) established in late 2021.
AusTriathlon notes “with a vision to create a happier, healthier and more connected nation through triathlon and multisport experiences, AusTriathlon must ensure the sport provides an inclusive environment and formats that cater to people from all backgrounds and communities. If achieved, this will ensure the sport truly is ‘A Sport for Everyone’.”
EDIAG helped establish key areas of focus over the first four years of the plan, to ensure meaningful change was embedded.
Four key focus areas are outlined in AusTriathlon’s EDI Plan:
First Nations Recognition
Sexual orientation and gender identity
Multiclass Pathway
Women and Girls
AusTriathlon Chief Executive Tim Harradine shared “I’m pleased to be able to present our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion plan, which is the first step on this journey, and will continue to evolve and adapt over time.
“As an organisation, we acknowledge that there are many aspects of equity, diversity and inclusion, and through this plan we will be working to move the dial on specific aspects initially, with a view to broaden our approach and focus areas over time.
“There will also be an opportunity to also work collaboratively with Race Directors, clubs, coaches and officials in the development and implementation of improved inclusive practices.”
Closely aligning to the AusTriathlon Strategic Plan, there are key outcomes focused on each pillar.
General Manager Sport Services Alex Anasson advised “we are committed to welcoming and embracing all elements of the diverse Australian community into our sport, and we hope that this plan will be a step towards creating a safe and welcoming community for anyone who wants to participate, compete or work in triathlon and multisport.”
