Australians encouraged to take an Outback 'Eventure'

Outback Queensland's tourism leaders are encouraging Australians to 'promise' to visit an iconic Outback event in 2013.

Queensland Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey recently tourism operators, country music star Troy Cassar-Daley and football legend Steve Renouf and wife Elissa, to launch the 2013 'Outback Queensland Eventures' campaign.

Minister Stuckey explained "this is the second year Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) has partnered with the Outback Queensland Tourism Association to promote events and tourism experiences under the "Eventures" themed marketing campaign.

"Events offer a great opportunity for visitors to experience the charm of Outback Queensland communities and make an important economic contribution to the regional economy.

"There are some 200 annual events held in Outback Queensland, including camel races, camp drafting, marathons, rodeos and country music festivals which will be promoted along with other tourism experiences as part of 'Eventures'.

"The campaign is built around the 'Outback Promise' initiative, which exhorts people to make a promise to take a trip to Outback Queensland.

"I am pleased to say I have committed to make a trip, as have Troy and Steve."

Outback Queensland Tourism Association General Manager Lloyd Mills said the primary experience sought out by travellers was a genuine 'Aussie embrace' from the locals.

Mills added "outback events are social calendar highlights for the local community, providing a great opportunity for our visitors to have that genuine experience."

Minister Stuckey said the Outback Queensland Eventures campaign formed part of the Tourism Investment Strategy that aimed to increase overnight visitor expenditure in Queensland to $30 billion by 2020.
