Australian volunteer at top of the YMCA world
An Australian YMCA volunteer has been elected to the highest global decision making body of the YMCA, the largest youth focused Movement in the world.
Alan Morton, a Director of a regional Victorian architecture firm Morton Dunn Architects, has served as a Board Director with Ballarat YMCA, and is currently a Board Director at YMCA Victoria and YMCA Australia. He is also the most recent past President of YMCA Australia.
At the most recent World Council of YMCAs meeting in Colorado earlier this month, Morton was elected a member of the World Alliance of YMCA’s 35-person Executive Committee.
Welcoming his addition to the Executive Committee, Alan Morton stated “the World Alliance work in the areas of advocacy, global programming, capacity building, and communications, supports and strengthens National and Local YMCAs to better serve youth and communities.
“I’m honoured to have been nominated by YMCA Australia, and for my nomination to have been successful. I am committed to strengthening our mission focus, especially our collective stand for empowering young people.”
YMCA Australia is one of 119 National YMCA Movements that are part of the World Alliance of YMCAs confederation.
The World Council meets every four years, and is responsible for setting the policies and direction of the World Alliance, electing its Officers and Executive Committee, evaluating the work of the last four years, and deliberating on priorities for the next quadrennium
YMCA Australia Chief Executive Ron Mell led the whole YMCA movement in Australia in congratulating Alan Morton on his appointment, and that everyone stood to benefit from our increased alliance with the YMCA’s worldwide commitment to empowering young people.
