Australian Sports Commission announces new senior leadership positions

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has announced three new leadership appointments as part of the implementation of Australia's Winning Edge 2012-2022.

Anthony Moore will join the Commission's Executive in early June 2013 as the General Manager of the Participation and Sustainable Sports Division.

Moore joins the ASC with almost 20 years' experience in management across basketball, Cricket Australia and AFL and with extensive commercial experience which will play a crucial role in the Commission's delivery of priority activities.

The AIS also welcomed two new Deputy Directors with Angela Ryder joining the AIS as Deputy Director, Performance Investment, and Andrew Logan returning to the AIS as Deputy Director Athlete, Coaching and Leadership from British Swimming.

ASC Chief Executive Simon Hollingsworth (pictured) was delighted with the recruitment of these critical positions and highlighted the broad range of sport and business skills the trio would bring to the Commission.

Hollingsworth stated "the Commission is forging into new territory under Australia's Winning Edge and we believe that Anthony's commercial experience with sport in sponsorship, branding, research and intellectual property will be an asset to sporting organisations we partner with.

"Anthony has gained a wealth of experience through leadership roles with Richmond Football Club, Cricket Australia and most recently with the St Kilda Football Club as General Manager Strategy and New Business."

In accepting the role, Moore was excited by the challenge of working with the CEOs of Australian sports to support and enhance their commercial returns to provide more opportunities for grass roots participation and building stronger organisations.

He explained "the opportunity to work with the leaders of Australian sports to build stronger, more effective and commercially successful organisations is a fantastic prospect."

AIS Director Matt Favier was particularly pleased with the calibre of his two new senior appointments, adding "when we announced the Winning Edge strategy late last year we talked about a fresh approach to high performance sport in Australia.

"Part of that approach has been to look outside our organisation for the skills that will complement our fantastic existing leaders and enhance our ability to achieve the ambitious targets we have set for high performance sport.

"Angela brings a wealth of experience in assessing and executing strategic investments in various private sector roles. She will bring a lot of business savvy to her role in sport."

Logan returns to the AIS after working within the UK Sport System for the past four and half years with the British Swimming as manager of their Sport Science Sports Medicine program.

Favier concluded "previous to that he has had a formidable career, initially as an elite cyclist followed by coaching and management positions in high performance sport."
