Australian Institute of Fitness names new Chief Executive

The Australian Institute of Fitness has announced that Steve Pettit has been appointed as its new Chief Executive ('Commander in Chief') on the retirement of current postholder Dyanne Ward.

Pettit is currently the Queensland ‘Mission Commander’ for the Institute, a role which he has held for eight years and will also retain.

Well-respected within the fitness industry, Pettit has extensive experience in a range of leadership roles having worked with some of the world's leading fitness providers.

He is also a popular keynote presenter where he focuses on the topic of leadership development.

In his new role as Chief Executive, Pettit’s responsibilities will expand to include the leadership of the Institute’s National team, who in conjunction with the state based teams, are responsible for ensuring the Institute continues its leading role in fitness through offering qualifications including Fitness, Massage, Nutrition and Business in a fun, fresh and friendly way.

Welcoming his appointment, Pettit stated “I would like to thank Dyanne Ward for her commitment to the Institute. Dyanne has been a driving force, not only for the Institute, but also in the development of the Australian fitness industry.

“Her outstanding leadership style has seen her become a respected leader and mentor to our team and we wish Dyanne all the best for her retirement.

“As I prepare to commence my new position as CEO for the Institute, I’m dedicated to injecting a fresh new energy into the business. I’m looking forward to working with our talented team as we build on our reputation as the industry leader in fitness careers.

“We will continue to deliver knowledgeable and passionate graduates into the fitness industry, who will move on to successful careers and positively impact the health and wellbeing of many Australians.”

Commenting on her retirement, Ward added “my career in the fitness industry has spanned over 35 years, six of which have been with the Australian Institute of Fitness.

“During the time I have been the Commander in Chief, the Institute has navigated substantial changes in the vocational training sector and evolved into a mature organisation that has maintained its position as a strong and credible RTO servicing the fitness industry.

“The time has now come to hand the reigns over to a dynamic and capable new leader.”

Pettit will begin in his new role as of 9th January 2017.
