Auckland Council highlights the activities and inclusive facilities offered at their aquatic venues

Auckland Council has highlighted how its aquatic facilities cater for a range of diverse users, from those who are serious about swimming training and improving swimming fitness to patrons who are looking for children-specific activities and family fun days.

Parnell Baths is a historic site and has been enjoyed by millions of people for over 100 years. The main pool is the largest salt water pool in New Zealand and measuring 60metres is ideal for the competitive and leisure swimmer. There are also family and adult spa pools, toddlers’ pool and an interactive aqua playground for the children.

The Tepid Baths (“The Teps”) is an Auckland landmark in the CBD offering a 25metre seven-lane pool, a 15metre learners’ pool, spa and sauna and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.100 years old and looking better than ever, “The Teps” is an iconic part of Auckland’s history and offers a range of programmes and services. Tepid Baths is a completely accessible centre, with water wheelchairs, pool hoists in all pools, and ramp access to the smaller pool. There is a lift to the upstairs fitness centre and disabled access changing rooms.

The Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre offers a range of water play fun with fountains, mist sprayers and elevated structures. Located in Pakuranga, in the Eastern Bays of Auckland, the centre caters for swimming, relaxing in the spa, steam room or sauna, and group fitness classes. Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre is an accessible centre, with water wheelchairs, pool hoists in the leisure and lap pools, and ramp access to the learner’s pool. There are disabled access changing rooms.

Albany Stadium Pool is designed for family fun and education. Although there is a 20 metre lap swimming pool, its main focus is on recreation and learn-to-swim. The zero-depth splash pad area provides toddlers with their first aquatic experience, while the shallow kids’ pool is perfect for young ones developing confidence in the water. For the more adventurous children and adults, the leisure pool offers a variety of water activities, inflatables and an over-the-pool rock-climbing wall. The facility also has a large adult spa and sauna, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and offers small holistic group fitness classes.

West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre offers something for everyone at its extensive complex, from a hydroslide and wave pool through to a steam room, sauna and lap pool. The centre is accessible with disabled access to the hydro pool via ramp access and the main pool and adult spa pool via hoist. Water wheelchairs are available. There is also disabled access to the fitness centre, swim school and recreation hall.
