Aquatic facilities benefit from nine seasons of Watch Around Water
Now in its ninth year, the 2012/13 season Watch Around Water aquatic facility safety program continues to raise awareness of the importance of parental supervision of young children while at public swimming pools.
Launched for the season on 12th December at the new Cannington Leisureplex, the program is in place at 112 aquatic facilities across Western Australia, over 100 facilities in Victoria as well as major facilities in South Australia and NSW.
Designed and delivered by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) in Western Australia and owned by industry association the Leisure Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) Aquatics, Watch Around Water addresses the "misconception by parents that the supervision of young children is the sole responsibility of lifeguards."
However, while Watch Around Water expands, industry confusion continues with the RLSSA being associated with two programs covering the supervision of young children at aquatic facilities.
For some years Watch Around Water, which is managed from Western Australia, has been in competition with the RLSSA National Office's Keep Watch @ Public Pools program.
However, the LIWA Aquatics website currently states "with a major shakeup in the National Office of Royal Life Saving Australia there is now the potential to work towards a truly national parental supervision program."
