Applications now open for Cricket Victoria’s Rainbow Advisory Committee
Over the last five years, Cricket Victoria has been continually working towards making cricket a more inclusive sport for their LGBTIQ+ community. As such applications are now open for Cricket Victoria’s Rainbow Advisory Committee with the aim of the committee to provide advice, ideas and support the work Cricket Victoria carry out in the space from community engagement through to policy.
With support from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia engaged with Victoria University to conduct research titled ‘Exploring LGBTI+ Inclusion within Australian Cricket’. The research explored the current climate and attitudes towards LGBTI+ inclusion within Australian cricket.
Following the research, recommendations were made to Cricket Victoria on how the sport can be more inclusive to the LGBTI+ community. Cricket Victoria have continued to work through these recommendations by conducting further research, hosting LGBTIQ+ events and celebrating days of significance.
Cricket Victoria developed a Proud Cricket program in conjunction with Proud 2 Play and VicHealth and engaged with organisations to develop policies.
The groundwork has started, however Cricket Victoria need more support and involvement from the LGBTIQ+ community to help them achieve their goals and drive change for the LGBTIQ+ community in Victorian Cricket.
