ANZ Stadium redevelopment project hit by rising costs
The cost of renovating Sydney’s ANZ Stadium has reportedly sky-rocketed from $700 million to a staggering $1.6 billion.
With the NSW Government intending to redevelop the venue into a 70,000-seat ‘rectangular’ stadium as part of its Stadiums Strategy, 9NEWS, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the increased price of the development would put the renovation in serious jeopardy.
The NSW Government has budgeted $1.6 billion for the new Western Sydney Stadium (the former Pirtek/Parramatta Stadium) as well as improvements to the Allianz Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground – with work on the ANZ Stadium to commence after the opening of the Western Sydney Stadium in 2019.
