Annual seasonal closure of attractions commences in Thailand’s national parks

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the country’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has announced the commencement of its annual seasonal closure of attractions in 66 of its 147 national parks.

DNP advise that the closures are normal practice during the rainy months of the year to avoid the creation of unsafe conditions and to allow “ecological recovery time”.

Commenting on the program, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn advises “natural rejuvenation is a key to preserving the biodiversity and pristine quality of Thailand’s amazing nature and natural resources.

“I believe that closing off several attractions for certain months during the rainy season demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to ensure sustainable environmental management of the country’s valuable nature heritage.”

According to the DNP, Thailand currently has a total of 147 national parks, covering an area of over 70,000 kilometres, representing 13.64% of the land area of the country.

This year, DNP is closing attractions in 66 national parks.
