Alarming industry ignorance of 1300 and 1800 numbers, telephone systems and plans
Misunderstanding of telephone systems, plans and costs across the Australian leisure industry is seeing businesses pay as much as 40% above standard rates.
Recent research conducted by telecoms specialist, IP Hub has focussed on three key areas: the understanding of 1300 and 1800 numbers, telephone systems, and plans.
IP Hub Director Roger Dosanjh explains “what is particularly alarming is the ignorance of exactly whether or not a business should be using a 1300 or 1800 number in the first place.
“In addition, most businesses were paying way over the odds for their numbers.
“Anyone can buy a 1300 number at wholesale prices and save significant sums by cutting out the middle man ... costs can be as little as $250 per number.”
Dosanjh and IP Hub also found an alarming ignorance of plans and rates, with Dosanjh adding “1300 plans and rates vary wildly.
“If a business hasn’t shopped around in the last 24 months, the chances are that they are paying way over the odds. In some cases we discovered businesses working with the big telcos and were paying up to 40% more than they could be.”
Other findings revealed that businesses had not looked into the important difference between buying and leasing their 1300 numbers from their telephone company. Few had also recently reviewed their connection fees, call rates and number rentals.
Dosanjh concluded “it is a competitive market and it is easy to avoid long lock-in contracts and still get a great plan.
“What’s more there are numerous systems available which have excellent marketing and sales functions enabling the user to track calls, caller location and other benefits which are a great benefit to the Leisure sector.”
IP Hub are currently offering leisure businesses a free consultation by telephone to discuss their own phone numbers, systems, plans and internet usage.
Dosanjh asserts “in most cases, we can pretty much guarantee savings of around 25 to 30%.”
